The former Buffy The Vampire actress discusses her latest role in the new independent romantic comedy about finding your soul mate
Actress Emma Caulfield is familiar to television audiences for her role as Brandon Walsh's girlfriend on the final season of the original Beverly Hills, 90210 but it was her turn as ex-demon Anya on Buffy the Vampire Slayer that made her a household name to fans of the popular Joss Whedon show
We recently had a chance to speak with Emma Caulfield about the new film; it's intriguing concept, her character's journey and the movie's commentary on dating in today's society. Here is what she had to say:
Now the actress is starring in a new independent movie that asks the question, if there were a device that could tell you when you will meet your soul mate, would you want it? In the new film, TiMER opening in New York on May 14th, Caulfield plays a Oona, a woman who's "timer" is blank because her soul mate has yet to purchase one of his own, which places her on a romantic journey to find her one true love.
To start the ball rolling with, after you number one read the script in place of the film come again? Did you think of it's unique theory?
Emma Caulfield: I loved the theory and ideas it was completely novel. The script read so fluid, fun and real and I'm glad I got to carry out it. I'm glad she (director Jac Shaeffer) hired me. She had a name in addition, which I really know who it was but can't say, but I'm glad I kind of swooped in to it and got it.
What is your outlook on the film's premise with the purpose of it is easier to be told who to love preferably than falling in love manually and risking impending heartbreak?
Emma Caulfield: Well if with the purpose of was a real place and I was faced with the option of knowing, I wouldn't plan to know. I ideas maybe I would in the historical but at this time I think I wouldn't plan to know and maybe it's as I'm married with the purpose of my perspective on it has distorted. It's probably not a utter earth in place of control freaks to live in. The film kind of depicts it as this utopian earth and takes the speculation prevented of love, but I think it shows with the purpose of it really doesn't ultimately. Because subsequently in attendance would be veto conflict and in attendance was enough of conflict to attempt around in the film. Particularly with my Dad and my Mom and anon with encounter his girlfriend, I don't plan to say too much.

Here the motion picture the timer is depicted as almost a novel date Matchmaker and with the purpose of certainly seems to be the place with the purpose of your character's younger brother is dealing with, can you speech as regards with the purpose of aspect of the film?
Emma Caulfield: Well I would be upset too if I was told with the purpose of I in a minute met the love of my life or with the purpose of I was disappearing to in four hours and I was simply sixteen. I mean somewhere is the fun in with the purpose of? You know you're sixteen and it's like, well acceptable, carry out you worry disappearing through dating and through dating other associates? You would think with the purpose of you would in a minute to comprise life experience under your belt. Are you cheating on your soul mate if you carry out, even if you're not self-possessed yet? They kind of explore with the purpose of a little (in the film) with him after he had a conversation with her and says with the purpose of he wants to walk to know her number one. But come again? If he strong-willed not to? Or if they strong-willed not to and believed, "Well I know it's you so lets walk back to all other in like ten years and lets attempt rotten and rendezvous other associates." Which I don't know? Maybe in with the purpose of fictional earth associates carry out, carry out with the purpose of.
Do you think with the purpose of in a sagacity the film is making a commentary on dating in today's society with the advent of websites like eHarmony and Match.Com?
Emma Caulfield: I haven't even ideas as regards with the purpose of but it's really a really well-behaved observation. I've heard Jac answer a bunch of questions as regards the film and I don't think she's yet touched winning with the purpose of and I don't think any person in addition has either. That does seem like kind of a reasonable after that step and a natural development from, "We'll come across your mate in place of you!" But that's not really a brand new theory. Matchmakers in about form or any more comprise been around forever. Arranged from either setting associates up on blind dates or arranged marriages but the image of someone in addition appearance in and making it "easier in place of you" to come across who you are disappearing to side up with, you know that's not brand new but I think it in a minute seems more glossy these days as its packaged better and everything is I think as regards packaging these days. Which is why I think the get hard design in place of the film was very clever as it seemed very current and in a minute very clean. Everything was in a minute very fresh and it was like, why wouldn't you plan a timer? It's in a minute marketed so well.
While your character is waiting in place of her timer to attempt rotten and chance on her soul mate, she begins a bond with a younger man named Mikey, can you speech as regards their bond and come again? She sees in him?
Emma Caulfield: Well she is in a minute tightly wound and I think her underlining motivation in place of everything I think is control. You can kind of guarantee with the purpose of in the way she dresses, her facial hair, even her job, which is as a orthodontist somewhere you really comprise to be meticulous. She in a minute tries to get along everything, that's not getting her anywhere and she's undeniably not living in the flash. She meets this teenager who is eight or nine years younger than her, he's in a minute kind of a baby and acts like it but in attendance is something very refreshing as regards him. He's her antithesis. He lives in the flash and he sees her impending. At number one she doesn't guarantee a summit in dealing with him on all but she sees the impending in him as well. He opens her up and their bond is very endearing and I think pretty believable. While we were shooting it we really by and large recognized individual any more. I mean, John Patrick Amedori was very trouble-free to engage in recreation with as I had such a well-behaved moment in time with him and I estimate by default so did my character Oona.

Could you discuss the bond amid Oona and her step-sister Steph and the disloyalty with the purpose of happens amid them anon in the film?
Emma Caulfield: Well you know Michelle Borth who show business my step-sister Steph, I in a minute love her past language and she has been saddled with this burden of intelligence with the purpose of she is not disappearing to chance on her soul mate until she is forty or something so she is in a minute deserted. She's in a minute having meaningless sexual category with individual guy behind any more as, why not? She in a minute wants to feel something. She meets Dan the work on masterpiece and I think with the purpose of he is visiting his Grandfather; she moving parts in an old person's home-produced. They work stoppage up this friendship and it's kind of the number one moment in time she's really allowing herself to maybe feel everything on all. She's been taken prevented of her ... Well I don't plan to say with the purpose of she is depressed but she's undeniably on kind of a bender. Of gush the way with the purpose of things masterpiece in the film, that's got to walk screwed with by hook or by crook and enter my character. Should I say come again? Happens? I don't plan to blow it in place of associates who haven't seen it yet, but it in a minute shows you with the purpose of love with a ensure don't necessarily mean with the purpose of. Everything begins to attempt kind of haywire. She starts to comprise these feelings of not up to scratch to break unbound from the confines of the timer and so carry out I and it in a minute goes to a complete other level.
Finally, can you speech as regards the films commentary on love, dating in this date and age and come again? You personally took away from singing the role?
Emma Caulfield: I in a minute don't think with the purpose of ultimately in attendance is a device with the purpose of can already tell you come again? You know, even if it is something with the purpose of you don't plan to know. I think with the purpose of somewhere deep down we all know the truth of a place. I think with the purpose of the star rate of marriages, or I be supposed to say the lack of since done 50% of them don't masterpiece prevented, demonstrates with the purpose of. I mean the motion picture would comprise you believe with the purpose of if you comprise the timer you wouldn't be broken up as you are really encounter your soul mate and everything will masterpiece prevented in a minute fine. But I think a bunch of associates who enter into marriages
On about level know with the purpose of they are not the individual and they walk into them in place of the not right reasons. Ultimately I think with the purpose of the intelligence in place of star and love essential exist somewhere in our souls. If we are innocent subsequently I think in attendance is about sort of cosmic tenacity in place of the heartbreak and to take with the purpose of heartache away, I think you'd be missing prevented on a explanation bit of come again? Makes us human being. What makes it attractive, exciting and all of it to be interacting with members of the opposite sexual category or members of the same sexual category depending on your sexual preference, you know?
